Not sure if this logic pans out? Then why this:
SpaceX vice president of commercial sales Tom Ochinero said in a statement that DOGE-1 "will demonstrate the application of cryptocurrency beyond Earth orbit and set the foundation for interplanetary commerce."
Elon is always in the news, yet with good cause. His corporate empire spans a wide range of technological niches, but more so, entice, encapsulate a dream.
Mars.
This may seem hyperbolic, yet step back a moment! Examine the companies Musk created, controls, owns, manages. While these companies have great value on Earth, they also have great value for Mars.
Let's start of an unusual one, The Boring Company. It digs tunnels. Where else do you want tunnels? Mars! When it comes to living space, manufacturing space on Mars, tunnelling provides a cheap and quick method to protect against radiation, storms, and even mine for resources.
Developed on Earth, The Boring Company is vital on Mars.
Yet what else do we have? Tesla. What does Tesla do? It makes vehicles, but it does far more than that. Tesla makes components in house. Motors. Car parts. Batteries. Solar panels. It manufacturers, and has in-house capability to eventually handle its entire production chain internally.
Much has been said about H2 powered cars, which are indeed quite viable, have multiple companies making them (Toyota, Honda, Hyundai), and refuel instantly compared to long electric recharge times. Yet what does H2 not allow?
Operation on Mars. You need oxygen to operate an H2 car. Worse, oxygen is 16x as heavy as hydrogen, meaning H+O -> H20, requires 8x the weight which you must carry around with you, on Mars. And oxygen is a rare resource on Mars! So is water. So you'd really want to collect that water, meaning a reclamation tank, and its bulk and weight too.
Electric makes immense sense for Mars. Even more so than on Earth.
Yet what else can Tesla provide for Mars? Well, it sells solar panels, solar power storage systems, and batteries. All manufactured by Tesla's SolarCity division. Guess what's going to power Mars?
SolarCity.
However it goes beyond that. What is going to power digging machines? Bulldozers? Farming equipment? Shipments to remote colonies? Anything powered by electric motors? Tesla build motors, vehicle frames, auto-driving technology, and more.
OK, what else? SpaceX. What does SpaceX do? Well, getting to Mars is obvious, bit it also has a satellite division. What do you need on Mars? GPS. Globe-spanning communications. Satellite surveys. Weather prediction. All of this, and more, is reliant upon satellites.
Of which? SpaceX is an expert at, having launched, and built in house, thousands of its own satellites.
All of the above not only represents technologies which immediately can be used to aid in the colonization of Mars, but also to create a manufacturing base on Mars! These series of companies, the expertise of the people in these companies, the tested technology and know how, will enable local manufacturing on Mars. It will allow for the creation of a real, viable, external colony. Yet what else is required here?
Quite a few things, yet one essential thing? A local currency.
Musk isn't going to transport a stack of greenbacks to Mars. Whatever will be used, will be 100% digital. Crypto-currencies provide for a tested method of payment, yet there is a bit of a hitch here.
Crypto is under scrutiny by various governments around the world, and Musk is already in hot water with various regulatory agencies. It is no stretch to say, that starting his own crypto currency may cause significant friction for Musk.
Yet, using an existing crypto-currency? Using that to pay employees on Mars, to allow employees to exchange goods for cash on Mars? That's quite doable. And as with anything else Musk does, with everything he says or does, the point is... Mars.
Bitcoin has a very high per-transaction fee, currently at around $20USD per transaction. Yet doge? Dogecoin has a lower transaction fee, making it viable as a method of payment for, say, groceries, or micro-transactions.
And who owns a large amount of dogecoin? Who constantly tweets about it?
Musk. Musk, who has everything he has done, everything he has accomplished, with an additional goal of colonizing Mars.
I suspect this is the true reason he loves dogecoin. I suspect?
That dogecoin will become The official currency of Mars!
